Honey is considered one of the oldest foods in the world. With its unique sweet taste and many health benefits, honey is a popular food for humans. When buying honey, it is important to know that not all honey is the same. Honey labels are labels that must be attached to every honey package. The labels provide information about the origin of the honey, its composition and quality, for example. The labels also contain other mandatory information, such as the honey's ingredients. The labeling makes it easier for the customer to get a better understanding of what the honey contains and how it can best be consumed. The front of the honey jar usually features promotional information and images. A unique graphic design on honey labels can also help to promote the product. Basically, the use of honey labels is essential. They provide consumers with a wealth of valuable information about the product and help them decide which type of honey to buy. So you can be sure you are making a high-quality product choice.
Anyone wishing to sell honey is obliged to affix a label to the honey jar. The label must in turn contain certain mandatory information. If certain information is missing from the label, the beekeeper is committing an administrative offense and may face a heavy fine. Every beekeeper must therefore label their product properly before placing it on the market. When labeling honey, several laws must be observed at the same time:
All mandatory information must be shown together in one field of vision (on the same side of the packaging). The writing must also be legible and waterproof. A sealing flap is not obligatory, but has some advantages. The following information is mandatory and must be indicated on the honey packaging:
Specification | Description |
Product description | The product name "honey" must be indicated on the label |
Country of origin | You must indicate the country of origin in which the honey was completely extracted or produced. In the case of mixed honey, the labeling is specified literally: "Mixture of honey from EC countries", "Mixture of honey from non-EC countries" or "Mixture of honey from EC countries and non-EC countries" |
Best before date (BBD) | Is specified to the exact month or day. The beekeeper is responsible for the best-before date. If the best-before date is indicated on the lid, the label must state "best before: see lid". "Best before" or BBD are not permitted on the label; it is better to write "best before" |
Manufacturer | Details of the manufacturer so that they can be contacted by post |
Batch number | The batch number is used to identify a batch, for example by the filling date. The number begins with an L. The number is omitted if the best-before date is exact to the day |
Quantity | Indication of the quantity of honey in grams or kilograms with a unit symbol. The font size must be at least 4 mm |
Price | The price must be visible to the seller, but does not necessarily have to be displayed by the manufacturer. The basic price refers to 100 g or 1 kg |
Defrosted | If the honey was deep-frozen before sale, the indication "deep-frozen" must be given here |
Further information, which can be provided voluntarily:
However, this voluntary information can only be added if the honey is not baker's honey, filtered honey, honey with comb pieces, sliced honey, comb honey or comb pieces in honey. Furthermore, the information must be presented in a factually correct manner.
Every honey producer or beekeeper who wants to sell their honey or pass it on to third parties is obliged to comply with laws and regulations. One important regulation, which we have already mentioned, is the Honey Ordinance (HonigV). The Honey Ordinance was issued to ensure that the customer receives honey of the best possible quality and that production is carried out properly. Among other things, the Honey Ordinance regulates the obligation to label honey jars so that the customer can see where the honey comes from. The regulation also stipulates that all honey producers must maintain certain standards so that it complies with EU honey legislation. In addition, honey samples must be tested for certain parameters to ensure that they are free from harmful substances. Raw honey is particularly strictly regulated as it has not been pasteurized or heated. This means that the honey may contain bacteria or spores, which is why the honey is tested for microbiological quality. All these checks ensure that the customer can enjoy a high-quality and healthy honey.
At packaging warehouse, you are sure to find the right material for your honey label. We offer you a wide selection of different label materials:
In addition to the design, other aspects play a role in the selection of the material, for example the use, storage and filling of the honey. You should also pay attention to the performance of the adhesive. There are permanent adhesives and removable adhesives for our adhesive paper. For reusable jars, we recommend removable adhesive, which is easier to remove from the jar. On the other hand, we recommend permanent adhesive if your jars are exposed to external environmental influences, for example if the sale takes place outside at a stand. Metallized adhesive paper can be used to create beautiful, eye-catching, shiny effects. This will certainly draw attention to your exclusive honey product. Recycled labels, on the other hand, have a natural look and velvety feel - ideal for organic honey.
It is particularly important to us that our labels not only impress with their quality, but also make a lasting impression on the market. Sustainability is a central idea of our company philosophy. We try to keep our labels as resource-friendly and efficient as possible. As an environmentally friendly alternative, we therefore offer you our adhesive paper (white) made from 100% recycled paper. Recycled paper not only saves resources (wood fibers) and water compared to conventional production - it also measurably reduces energy consumption. The recycled paper has other advantages: it is absorbent, hard-wearing and tear-resistant - it also gives your honey a natural appearance. The paper is also more durable and much more environmentally friendly than normal paper labels. Removing the labels without leaving any residue is also guaranteed with a removable adhesive. The special feel and look of the recycled paper makes honey labels stand out from the crowd - this image is particularly suitable for organic honey. With the right options for honey labels, you can offer your customers a tasteful presentation - without compromising on environmental protection!
The label shape sometimes depends on the jar that is to be labeled. The jar size and the type of closure also play a decisive role in the choice of shape. With packaging warehouse, you can choose between the classic label shapes or special shapes. For honey and jams, sealing labels are often used. Of course, several labels can also be applied to one package. Packaging warehouse offers you classic label shapes in rectangular and oval/round. You are guaranteed not to go wrong with the classic shapes. You can put a lot of information on the rectangular shapes, while at the same time the labels look elegant and fit the honey jar perfectly. An oval or round label shape is also an eye-catcher; two labels are usually used for one jar (on the front and back) to ensure that all mandatory information is included. However, if you want a special shape for your labels, we also offer special shapes. Hexagonal labels are particularly suitable for honey, as this shape creates an association with the honeycomb. We will be happy to advise you on the options and work with you to find the right label solution for your honey jar.
Tamper-evident or sealing labels offer you a handful of advantages - especially regarding the safety and protection of your honey. They are used to protect against opening and prevent tampering so that no opened bottles and jars are put into circulation. The labels are used in various sectors, particularly frequently in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Here, consumers need to be sure that the product is intact and has not been opened beforehand. Tamper-evident labels are available in various designs and materials. They can be made of paper or plastic and can be printed as required. However, paper is usually used as the material, as this makes the seal easier to tear open. However, if your labels are made of film, we can integrate a perforation into the label seal to make it easier to open. All in all, the labels offer a number of advantages: Not only do they increase protection against unauthorized opening of your honey, but they also protect against external environmental influences, preventing moisture damage, for example. With this additional protection, you can be sure that your honey will reach your customers in pristine condition.
